What Dave Harrell says... These floats are designed for fishing with a bulk rig around two to three feet from the hook and one or two droppers, either No4 or No6 shot, below. The tip diameter of this float is critical in my opinion and you will notice that the diameters get progressively thicker as the floats get bigger. To help choose the right size of float, as a general guide, use 1g for every…

What Dave Harrell says... Like its older brother, the No1 Shallow Water Stick, this pattern has been designed for situations where you need a short float. This new design is much more sensitive than the original, though, and is better for species like roach and dace. A strung out shotting pattern is recommended for the four smaller sizes while a small bulk shotting arrangement can be used with the…

What Dave Harrell says... This is a great float for targeting barbel and chub in fast shallow water. It’s the perfect float for any fast water situation where buoyancy and visibility are the key requirements. I always use this pattern with an olivette rather than a bulk of shot as it’s far less prone to tangle this way and casts much better too. Below the olivette, which is fixed about 18 inches t…

What Dave Harrell says... These floats are designed for use in deep water, usually with a long rod approach. My general rule of thumb for this sort of fishing is to use 1g for every three feet of water. A swim that is around twelve feet deep should therefore be tackled with a 4g float. The hollow tips of these floats allows for easy visibility at distance.

What Dave Harrell says... This float features the same thickness hollow bristle as the No1 Bolo but the body shape makes it a better choice where there is more flow, as it is easier to control and hold back. To choose the correct size, use 1g of capacity for every two to three feet of water.

What Dave Harrell says... This pattern takes over where the No2 Bolo leaves off. It has a thicker hollow bristle and the shape of the float allows it to be held back hard and easily controlled in very strong current. This float works especially well in depths from six to fifteen feet and should be fished with a bulk rig either of shot or an olivette. Below the bulk, which is placed around two to t…

Until now, most anglers have regarded bolo fishing as a style to use in deep water with floats of 3g and above. This new model changes everything as it’s designed for use in depths from 5ft to 12ft in any situations where a bulk and single dropper can be used in preference to a strung out shotting pattern. It’s also a great float to use on rivers in conjunction with a long elasticated whip, a styl…

This pattern is perfect for river swims from 5ft to 12ft where the flow is slight or where there are a lot of fish present and you are getting bites quickly. Like our other bolo floats, it is best fished with a bulk in the form of an olivette about 18in to 2ft from the hook and a single drop shot, either a No8 or a No6, positioned about 10 inches from the hook. This is also a great float for use w…

This new design is a follow on from our No2 Bolo with a more streamlined body shape, long carbon stem and thinner 3mm hollow insert. It is attached to the line with float rubbers at the top and on the stem.
Dave Harrell DH11 Pole Float Dave Harrell DH11 Pole Float

This is the perfect 'all round' pole float for rivers and it can also be used on stillwaters where there is tow. We recommend No8 shots to be used in the two smaller sizes but olivettes and a few No8 or No10 dropper shot is a better combination for 1g and above. If you need a shorter float than these you can trim the bristle and the stem but for depths from five feet or more they are perfect as th…

This pattern features the same body shape as our popular DH11 but with a carbon stem and differing length, thicker hollow bristles. The 0.5g up to 1.5g sizes have 1.5mm bristles while the 2g, 3g sizes have 1.7mm. The stems have deliberately been left long as these are better for deep water. For anglers who prefer shorter stems, it's an easy job to carefully trim the stems down with a blade. Our 's…

This pattern, with differing length hollow bristles and carbon stems is the one to go for when you're fishing rivers with pace, as the shape of the float will help you to slow the float and hookbait down. In the smaller sizes, this float is perfect for long pole/ short line fishing with baits like hemp, tares, maggots and casters. Above 1g, we recommend the use of an olivette as a bulk with a few…
